In1999, Memorial Sloan-Kettering launched its Integrative Medicine Service,designed to provide complementary medical treatment modalities to its patients,and to carry out clinical trials on promising complementary medical treatments.One ongoing study involves an extract of the maitake mushroom made particularlyfor the study, which will measure immune system activation in breast cancerpatients and any side effects.
