CAMBRIDGE, Australia—NatMed Research at Southern Cross University, in partnership with Marinova, completed a human clinical trial on Maritech® Extract, an organic seaweed extract, examining its efficacy as an immune stimulant. Five healthy subjects were orally administered 100 mg/d of Maritech. The extract caused a short-term spike in active immune cell levels, including T cells, cytotoxic T cells and Natural Killer Cells. Numbers of each cell type was significantly increased by the three-day time point. Levels then normalized at 28 days. Maritech significantly increased activity levels of monocytes and granulocytes in blood over the 28-day period (P<0.05). Additionally, the extract reduced blood levels in inflammatory makers (P<0.05). The full results will be published in the coming months.
