Michael Pacheco to Join ADM as Chief Technology Officer

DECATUR, ILMichael A. Pacheco will join ADM as chief technology officer and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, effective June 4, 2007. Pacheco will report to Chairman and CEO Patricia Woertz.

Pacheco joins ADM from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) where he has served as director of the Department of Energys National Bioenergy Center since 2003. The National Bioenergy Center conducts research to develop technology to make fuels, power and chemicals from biomass, with an annual budget of more than $30 million.

As chief technology officer, Michael will focus on building ADMs leadership in BioEnergy and the agribusiness value chain by advancing the development of processing, food and fuel technologies. Tom Binder, ADM President, Research will report to Pacheco.

Michael Pacheco brings to ADM exceptional expertise in research and development, as well as in the commercialization of promising technologies. He has extensive experience leading large-scale partnerships and cross- functional teams charged with planning new investments and developing strategy and new product lines. His leadership will be particularly important as we advance our ability to identify and develop the most practical and promising BioEnergy solutions, said Woertz

Under Pachecos leadership, the DOEs National Bioenergy Center, together with USDA, completed the seminal Billion Ton Study which identified the ability of biomass resources to play a major role in meeting U.S. transportation fuel needs. Pacheco was also instrumental in the establishment of significant cooperative research and development agreements.

From 1999 to 2003, Pacheco worked for Louisiana-Pacific Corporation. He began as a research fellow and later was responsible for product quality management and technology transfer to manufacturing. From 1997 to 1999, he was vice president, Process Development, for Energy Biosystems Corporation, charged with commercializing the process to remove sulfur from diesel fuel.

Previously, Pacheco worked with Amoco Corporation for 13 years, with management responsibilities that included technology development and implementation in: hydroprocessing and catalytic cracking, catalytic reforming, isomerization and aromatics recovery, polygasoline and alkylation, and oxygenates.

Pacheco received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California in Berkley and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University.
