Musaceas Plant Extract Fights Cancer In Vitro

CLEARWATER, Fla.CellQuest released results of a company-sponsored study that showed an extract of the musaceas (plantain and banana) plant may be effective for the treatment and prevention of cancer. The unpublished research, conducted at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, Fla., showed a patented musaceas extract formula (as CellQuest) halted growth and induced cell death in several lines of cancer cells, including human leukemia, prostate and breast cancer cells.

Cancer kills more than 6 million people worldwide each year, making it the largest single cause of death, said Edward Ameen, president of CellQuest. And while the current treatment strategies of radiation and chemotherapy kill some tumor cells, some others are resistant. That realization is what prompted our search for natural alternatives, which ultimately led us to the musaceas plant. Its gratifying that our research efforts are lending support to our theory.
