National Starch Announces Price Increase

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. NationalStarch Food Innovation will raise prices on its food and pharmaceutical starchesin North America, as of Nov. 7, following 18 months of substantial, escalatingcost pressures. The increase will range from 8 to 10 percent, depending on thelevel of processing required for the product. Significantly higher costs for energy and petroleum-basedconversion chemicals used in manufacturing processes, as well as increasedtransportation and packaging costs, are the reasons for the increase, accordingto the company.

The significant sustained cost increases that have occurredin many raw materials and energy charges have forced most food ingredients andprocessing industries to increase prices, said Neil Grimwood, seniordivisional vice president of U.S. operations. We must increase prices tomaintain the quality products and services we offer.
