PURCHASE, NY—Professor Jun Nishihira presented the findings of a recent study at the 16th Annual European Congress on Obesity (ECO) showing Oligonol® reduced accumulation of visceral fat and may prevent metabolic syndrome. Researchers from Hokkaido Information University, Japan, and Amino Up Chemical Co. Ltd., the makers of Oligonol, a proprietary low molecular weight polyphenol from lychee fruit, conducted the randomized double blind, placebo-controlled study. Nineteen male and female adult volunteers, whose abdominal circumference measured greater than 85 cm (33.5 inches), were enrolled in the study. Half the subjects took two Oligonol capsules for 10 weeks, while the other half took placebo capsules. The Oligonol group experienced reductions in weight, body mass index, abdominal circumference, and waist circumference compared to the placebo group — abdominal CT scan analyses also revealed a 12-percent drop in visceral fat. Blood tests also showed the antioxidant ability of the Oligonol group trended higher than the placebo group, while their levels of triglycerides and lipid peroxides were remarkably reduced.
