Petadolex® Prevents Migraine

BRONX, N.Y.A proprietaryextract of Petasites hybridus,known as butterbur, was found in a three-arm, parallel-group, randomized trialto significantly reduce migraine attack frequency. Administration of Petadolex®(from Weber & Weber International), 75 mg twice daily, reduced migrainefrequency by 48 percent; use of 50 mg twice daily cut migraine incidence by 36percent. Almost two thirds of patients receiving the butterbur extract had agreater than 50-percent reduction in attack frequency after four months. Resultsof the trial were published in Neurology (63:2240-44,2004) (www.neurology.org).
