Polyphenolics announced a new product in its grape seed extract ingredient line, MegaNatural-GL. The new product helps consumers manage blood glucose spikes and oxidative stress. Preliminary studies conducted at University of California, Davis looked at the relationship between MegaNatural-GL and concentrations of blood glucose and insulin after meals (Functional Foods in Health and Disease 2012, 2(12):508-21).

“Our findings suggest that this grape seed extract has the ability to modify insulin and glucose metabolism in a manner that reduces insulin resistance," said lead investigator C. Tissa Kappagoda, MD., emeritus professor of medicine at UC Davis.

The studies suggested that subjects who took MegaNatural-GL showed an improvement in glucose management after dinner. “We feel these grape seed polyphenols merit further investigation as a part of a lifestyle management program for patients with a variety of conditions related to obesity such as metabolic syndrome and impaired glucose tolerance," Kappagoda said.

Grape seed polyphenols are the active compounds in each of Polyphenolics’ MegaNatural products, with each ingredient functioning differently. According to Polyphenolics' president Ani Shrkhande, Ph.D., MegaNatural-GL has the greatest benefit in the gastrointestinal tract, compared to another product MegaNatural-BP, which enters the bloodstream quickly.  MegaNatural-GL can be used in powders and capsules, at dosage levels as low as 300 mg. It is water soluble and can be added to beverages without impacting taste, consistency or color.
