Public Health Group Issues Warnings on Low Carb Diets

WASHINGTON--The Partnership for Essential Nutrition, a new publichealth coalition, announced it conducted a review of scientific research, whichshowed low carb diets can adversely affect consumers' health, includingincreasing the risks of coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer. Thegroup includes 11 non-profit consumer, nutrition and health groups, includingthe Alliance for Aging Research, American Obesity Association and NationalConsumers League. The new group plans to initiate a public information campaign,which will include television and print public service advertisements and a Website (www.essentialnutrition.org).
