SALINAS, Calif.Next Pharmaceuticals' Relora, a supplement blend of Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense, may improve mood and brain health while combating psychological stress (J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2013 Aug 7;10(1):37. doi: 10.1186/1550-2783-10-37).

Researchers from Supplement Watch/GLH Nutrition found Reloraâsignificantly improved the mood and other psychological states in moderately stressed subjects after testing 56 individuals for four weeks. The participants took either Reloraâor a placebo twice a day, and all subjects submitted three saliva samples (morning, mid-day and evening) for cortisol testing. They also completed a baseline Profile of Mood States questionnaire (POMS) on the first and last day of the study.

The results indicated daily use of Relora reduced cortisol exposure and perceived stress while improving a variety of mood parametersmost significantly, anger (reduced by 42 percent) and fatigue (reduced by 31 percent).

These are exciting results that suggest Relora may be an effective natural approach to managing the detrimental effects of chronic stress without the tranquilizing side effects of pharmaceutical agents," said Shawn Talbott, Ph.D., research director of the study.

Other indicators measured in the study include overall stress (reduced by 11 percent), tension (reduced by 13 percent), depression (reduced by 20 percent) and confusion (reduced by 27 percent). Salivary cortisol exposure decreased by 18 percent, and no adverse side effects were reported.

Next Pharmaceuticals also offers Relora® in liquid form, which can be mixed into any type of beverage.
