REYSSOUZE, FranceExtract of Hibiscus sabdariffa (as UTIrose, from Burgundy Botanical Extracts), with a high content of procanthocyanidin (PACs), anthocyanins, protocatechic acids and other flavonoids, was shown in a proprietary study to have antimicrobial and antibiotic properties in a liquid culture media containing Candida albicans and E. colimajor causes of cystitis. After one week, results showed a decrease of E. coli (from 2.8 x 107 to 0) and of Candida albicans (1.6 x 107 to 630). Burgundy Botanical Extracts also supported a series of proprietary studies on its 40 percent Harpagophytum procumbens (devils claw) extract (Iridoforce). In addition to the extracts anti-inflammatory properties, Iridoforce may help regenerate cartilage. The researchers noted the active harpagosides may work by interacting with arachidonic acid and its metabolic pathways. Iridoforce also significantly stimulated synthesis of hyaluronic acid by normal human chondrocytes, proving a significant 31-percent effect on inhibition of human cyclooxygenase (COX)an enzyme linked to inflammation.
