NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—An in-house, unpublished study found Capros® and pomegranate had synergistic effects. Capros, an antioxidant ingredient by Natreon Inc., is developed from Phyllanthus emblica, the Indian Gooseberry. The study was conducted at Natreon’s facilities in Kolkata, India. It utilized four in vitro screening systems to determine antioxidant potential, as well as ex vivo assays to measure if a combination of Capros and pomegranate extracts could achieve synergism. In all studies, fortification with Capros resulted in substantial improvement to the overall antioxidant profile of the mixture.

“These results are quite remarkable, and may open up a whole new way of looking at the potential applications of superfruit ingredients,” said Lucien Hernandez, president and CEO, Natreon Inc. “While Capros® has a superior ORAC value on its own, it is exciting to see that its antioxidant powers can boost other superfruit compounds to unheard-of heights.”
