QUEBEC CITY, Quebec—Cranberry juice may help prevent adhesion of bacteria linked to the gum disease periodontitis, according to researchers from the Université Laval (J Antimicrob Chemother, 58, 2:439-43, 2006) (http://jac.oxfordjournals.org). The in vitro study examined the impact of non-dialysable material (NDM) prepared from cranberry juice on growth, biofilm formation and adherence properties of Porphyromonas gingivalis. The cranberry NDM inhibited biofilm formation and adhesion, though it had no effect on bacterial growth and viability.
