eye q Fish Oil May Benefit ADD, ADHD Children
December 11, 2006
NORFOLK, England—An unpublished study found a healthy diet and eye q™ fish oil supplements (from Equazen™) reduced social difficulties for pupils diagnosed with severe behavioral, social and emotional difficulties at Eaton Hall Special School here.
Twenty-eight students, ages 10 to 16 years, completed the six-month open plan study during which they were given a daily balanced diet along with the eye q product. All participants had been diagnosed with various disorders including Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), autism, dyslexia, Aspergers syndrome and pervasive development disorder. Staff monitored the pupils' progress and behavior systemically in a daily record as was done prior to the study; pupils also kept individual diaries.
Results were analyzed by comparing current information to that gathered previous to supplementation. Six months before the healthy diet and supplementation began there were 112 recorded incidents of "physical management" and 15 "non-physical incidents" amongst the 28 pupils. During the six month health program, there were 36 recorded "physical management" and 29 "non-physical" incidents amongst the same 28 pupils.
Lisa Christensen, Norfolk County Council's Director of Children's Services, said: "This is the first time that a study of this size just on children with behavioral, emotional and social difficulties have been carried out. It was a unique opportunity because there was already detailed information about individual pupils' behavior from before the changes in their diet and the introduction of the supplements."
