PARSIPPANY, N.J.DSMs Fruitflow® won the 2011 Nutraward for Best New Ingredient at the Nutracon conference in Anaheim, CA, on March 10 2011. The natural, water-soluble patented tomato concentrate that helps to maintain a healthy blood flow was chosen by a scientific panel and voters on the Nutracon website. Twelve new ingredients competed for the top spot.

"Fruitflow® is truly unique," said Reto Rieder, senior marketing manager DSM Nutritional Products. By helping to keep the platelets smooth, Fruitflow® has been shown to maintain healthy platelet function in two published human studies. Its impressive clinical data and safety profile resulted in the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) awarding Fruitflow one of the first approved Article 13.5 Health Food claims in Europe."

At the same time, the first commercial products containing Fruitflow® in the United States were launched by Shrewsbury, NJ-based Relaxzen. Relaxzen used the ingredient in two shot-type products aimed at business travelers.

Late 2010 DSM signed a partnership agreement with UK-based Provexis Nutrition, the company that developed Fruitflow and supported multiple human studies with Fruitflow. `

We feel Fruitflow® has a bright future as it is natural, has an excellent safety profile, compelling human published data and an EFSA Health claim in Europe," Rieder said.
