Indias National Bank for Rural and Agriculture Development (Nabard) has decided to encourage widespread commercial cultivation of noni (Morinda citrifolia) in Jharkhand, a state in eastern India.

The bank plans to form noni farmer clubs throughout the state to promote noni cultivation. It is also considering seeking the involvement of scientists at Birsa Agricultural University and the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Programme (part of ICAR) to develop noni demonstration plots to provide technical and educational support for farmers.

Nearly all parts of the noni plant have practical applications, from folk medicine to cosmeceuticals and foods and beverages.
