BRAM, France—According to unpublished results from a study done at BIO SERAE Laboratories here, NeOpuntia®, a lipophilic fiber made from cactus, tripled the benefits of a well-balanced diet, and decreased the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by 10 percent compared to only 3 percent for placebo in the 60 participants. NeOpuntia also improved the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, which is associated with a reduced cardiovascular risk. In this receptive population, close to 60 percent of women in the test group were diagnosed to be free from metabolic syndrome at the end of the study.
