Popcorn Popping with Polyphenols

WASHINGTON—Popcorn, in addition to many popular breakfast cereals, contains “surprisingly large” amounts of polyphenols, according to a presentation by scientists at the 238th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Whole grain snacks, like popcorn and some cereals, have been touted for their fiber content, but this is the first study that shows they contain high levels of polyphenols, an antioxidant, which offers health benefits including reducing the risk of heart disease, cancer and other diseases.
