Soy Supplements May Lower Cholesterol

LYNGBY, Denmark--Researchers at the Centre for Advanced FoodStudies showed soy supplementation is effective for lowering cholesterol. In theunpublished study, 32 men and women were randomly assigned to a soy-based diet(30 g/d of protein and 100 mg/d of isoflavones) or the casein placebo for 24weeks. The treatment group exhibited significant decreases in total and LDLcholesterol compared to the control group. Researchers concluded soy has astrong lipid-lowering effect in slightly hypercholesterolemic subjects.

This study was financially supported by England-based Nutri Pharma, manufacturer of Abacor soy protein isolate.
