Tropical Blueberries Packed With Antioxidants

BRONX, New YorkSome types of tropical blueberries contain higher amounts of antioxidants than blueberries grown in the United States, according to a new study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. The findings suggest the extreme" superfruits may provide higher protection against heart disease and cancer.
Researchers from the City University of New York said more than 600 species of blueberries and blueberry-like fruits that grow wild in Mexico, Central and South America. They analyzed the healthful antioxidant content of blueberries and discovered two types of neotropical blueberries had significantly more antioxidants than a type of blueberry commonly sold in U.S. grocery stores. They suggest the neotropical blueberries "have the potential to be even more highly promising edible fruits."
