REDMOND, Wash.AYUSH Herbs constructed a hydroelectric facility to power its farms and the communities that surround them. Located in the Boh region of Himachal Pradesh, India, the four-megawatt plant will help bring electricity to Punjab, an area suffering from an acute shortage of power, in a manner that has little impact on the environment.

The AYUSH facility is a micro-unit that does not disturb the natural flow of the river, thus protecting fish runs and the distribution of wildlife, as well as aiding local farmers and villages and encouraging them to be environmentally-minded.

This project is quite an achievement for the AYUSH Group," said Jitender Sodhi, managing director for AYUSH, India. Not only does it support our local farms and provide electricity for those in need, but it also demonstrates the efforts of our company to look to nature for inspiration and solutions."

All AYUSH Herbs are wild-crafted or organic and are grown in the Himalayan Mountains using sustainable farming practices. The company has instituted many environmentally-conscious programs in India to date, ranging from educating villagers on the importance of harvesting indigenous plants in a sustainable manner to eliminating deforestation.
