GHENT, N.Y.Bionorica SE launched a global research Initiative to explore new ideas for improving health using medicinal plants and extracts.

Designed to encourage research on phytomedicines and how they support health, the initiative consists of 20 research awards worth 50,000 euros each. An international jury of experts selected by Bionorica SE will evaluate the applications and projects received, and they will nominate the 20 award winners.

The awards support a range of research needs, and the ultimate goal is to generate measurable and testable data on plant-based medicines. Applications are now available and submissions will be accepted through October 15, 2013. The review process will end on November 30, 2013.

In 2010, Bionorica received the Varro E. Tyler Commercial Investment in Phytomedicinal Research Award for its scientific studies on phytomedicines. The company has produced more than 450 published chemical, pharmacological and clinical trials on its line of phytomedicines.
