Aph. Flos-Aquae May Benefit Immune System, Cholesterol

BOSTON--In January issue of The Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association,two research articles suggest that Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (Aph. flos-aquae) strengthensthe immune system and may lower cholesterol in humans.

Conducted in a joint collaboration between Harvard's Pediatric Gastroenterology andNutrition Program and Cell Tech, this research shows that Aph. flos-aquae may offer twobenefits. The supplement may help certain immune cells perform their surveillance functionbetter as well as provide a good source of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Aph.flos-aquae may even lower cholesterol more than soybean oil, which researchers attributeto its chlorophyll content.
