LA GRANGE, Ill. Cognis Nutrition & Health released BetaGlow, a natural colorant from beta-carotene, positioned to meet consumer desire for natural ingredients and clean labels. The ingredient is naturally sourced from marine algae growth in saltwater lakes in Australia. The company uses a gentle extraction process, without the use of petro-chemical solvents, and then carefully purifies and formulates beta-carotene, along with small amounts of other carotenoids, using natural plant oils.

Products formulated using BetaGlow can be labeled as a natural source of vitamin A (depending on level); made with no synthetic colorants; and added color from natural beta-carotene. BetaGlow is available in water dispersible powders for beverages (1 percent or 2.5 percent natural beta-carotene) and in vegetable oil suspensions for foods (30 percent natural beta-carotene in olive or soy).
