WASHINGTONSunny Lake Trading Inc., based in Brooklyn, N.Y., is recalling Golden Bridge dried dates because they may contain the sulfites, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Aug. 17.

The recall involves Golden Bridge dried dates packaged in uncoded 12-ounce, clear plastic bags that were distributed in the New York City metropolitan area. Routine testing revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites that were not declared on the label. According to the FDA, the consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving can cause severe reactions in some asthmatics; anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
