Safeway Lasagna Recalled in 12 States Over Undeclared Allergens

WASHINGTONWindsor Quality Food Co., headquartered in Toluca, Ill., is recalling approximately 96,408 pounds of Safeway brand meat lasagna products in 12 states and the District of Columbia because they may contain the undeclared allergens, egg and soy, USDAs Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced June 6.
The recall involves retail cartons of Safeway Select Five Cheese Lasagna" with a package code of April 4, 2013, and shipping cases of Safeway Select Meat Lasagna" with a best by date of April 4, 2013. The affected products were produced on April 4, 2012, and shipped to retailers in Alaska, California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Virginia.
The problem, which was discovered when the company received two consumer complaints, may have occurred as a result of the meat lasagna product being inadvertently packaged in a cheese lasagna carton.
