LEXINGTON, Ky.—Elemental Analysis Inc. released a white paper examining purity testing levels and methods for dietary supplements. The study, “Using Non-Destructive Purity Test Methods to Comply with New Dietary Supplement Good Manufacturing Practices”, is available online and discusses the use of irradiation testing of dietary supplements to detect contaminants at levels as sensitive as one part per quadrillion for many trace elements. The method further does not require sample pre-treatment.

Mark Stauffer, Elemental Analysis, said: “The new FDA [good manufacturing practice; GMP] rule began phasing in last month. The final rule emphasizes purity, strength, identity and composition as critical factors. The ‘ultra trace detection’ capability of nuclear and radioanalytical testing enables our customers to take their products to market with full confidence that the purity levels required for compliance are there.”
