SDG Lignan Method Validated
April 9, 2007
CHICAGO—The Flax Lignan Association announced validation of a standardized method for analyzing the content of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), the major lignan found in flaxseed ingredients; the HPLC method was validated in multilab testing coordinated by members of the association. Plans are underway to seek full validation of the method through AOAC International, and a pure SDG standard has been developed through ChromaDex (www.chromadex.com).
“Until now companies have used their own in-house methods for measuring the lignan content in their products,” said Laurent Leduc, president of the Flax Lignan Association and vice president of new business for Frutarom (www.frutarom.com). “Having a standard method of measurement will ensure the accuracy and safety of products for consumers as more companies enter the flax lignan marketplace.”
