Biopolymer Changes Name, Files Lawsuits

EAGAN, Minn.BiopolymerEngineering changed its company name to Biothera, the immune health company.According to the company, the name change reflects the companys evolutionfrom a biomaterials company to a drug development company. Biotheras(www.biotherapharma.com) technology platform is based on enhancing the immunesystem, and it offers a number of carbohydrate compounds based on beta 1,3/1,6glucan.

Biothera also announced it filed three patent infringementlawsuits in Minnesota federal district court, alleging the named companies haveviolated patents covering Biotheras manufacturing and sales of proprietarybeta-glucan as a dietary supplement. The companies targeted included CypressSystems in Fresno, Calif., which makes BetaPrecise; Biotec Pharmacon ASA and itsU.S.

distributor Immunocorp regarding their product Immutol; andthe Chinese firm Fenchem Enterprises Ltd., which markets GreenShieldbeta-glucan. When contacted by INSIDER forcomment on the actions, the companies involved said they do not comment onpending litigation.
