WASHINGTONSen. John McCain (R-AZ) has withdrawn his support from S.3002, the Dietary Supplement Safety Act, which he introduced in mid-February, Over The Counter Today reported. The news story stated McCain will now collaborate with Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) on revised legislation that would address consumer protection concerns without the regulatory overhaul the McCain bill would cause.

In a letter, posted online, the Utah senator thanked McCain for his willingness to listen to his concerns and to work together on effective legislation. He noted, in part, I want to work with you on calling for the full enforcement of existing laws, such as [the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act], so Americans will have uninterrupted access to safe dietary supplements and bad actor companies are removed from the market immediately. Im counting on you working with me to make sure this important industry does not fall pretty to over-regulatory regimes and mounds of costly government bureaucracy.
