REDMOND, Wash. The United States Patent Office has issued Nutraceutix Inc. a patent (No. 8,007,777) for its BIO-tract® dietary supplements containing probiotics. BIO-tract tablets are designed to protect probiotics from damaging stomach acids, then gently release live organisms over time to the upper and lower intestinal tracts.

The U.S. patent, "Delivery System for Biological Component" is in addition to four international patents already awarded to Nutraceutix for BIO-tract in China, Australia, Russia and Singapore. Several related patents are still pending.

Securing this U.S. patent is the result of a lengthy, rigorous process and asserts what weve known for quite some time:  BIO-tract caplets with LiveBac processing are unparalleled when it comes to the effective delivery of live probiotic organisms to the body," said Tim Gamble, president and CEO of Nutraceutix.  No other probiotic dietary supplement format offers the outstanding combination of advantages and formulation flexibility that BIO-tract provides."

In 2010, Frost and Sullivan recognized Nutraceutix with its North American Technology Innovation of the Year" Award.

Nutraceutix is one of the sponsors of the SuypplySide West workshop IPA Probiotic Update: Insights and Perspectives from the Physician, Regulator and Market Analyst," where the International Probiotics Association (IPA) will offer insight into the probiotic market.  The workshop is set for Friday, Oct. 14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Venetian & Sands Expo in Las Vegas.
