BASEL, SwitzerlandLonzas International Patent Application WO 2011/038898 for larch arabinogalactan (LAG), which contains patent claims relating to LAGs positive effect on the immune system prior to, during and after exposure to foreign antigens, was published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). LAG is the key component in Lonzas immune ingredient, ResistAid, which has been added to dietary supplements and functional foods in the United States.

While previous research demonstrated the ability of ResistAid to strengthen and support the innate arm of the immune system, the newest research results, which serve as the basis for the pending patent application, broaden the understanding of ResistAid and its ability to enhance the adaptive arm of the immune system.

The patent-pending application, titled Arabinogalactan for Enhancing the Adaptive Immune Response," also contains claims for use in a vaccination kit comprising of a composition with arabinogalactan and a vaccine.

Lonza noted ResistAid can be used in standalone form or combined with other products in foods and supplements to increase functionality. ResistAid has a branched structure, so it is freely soluble in hot or cold water. ResistAid is stable at a wide range of temperatures and pH values, according to Lonza, providing for easy use in various applications. In beverages it keeps its functionality due to its stability in solutions.
