RiceX Receives Patent for Cholesterol Treatment

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif.--RiceX Co., based here, was issued a patent inOctober for a cholesterol treatment from stabilized rice bran derivatives. Thepatent (#6,126,943) contains 26 claims describing a treatment method forreducing serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B andtriglyceride levels by ingesting the patented derivatives RiceX Solubles andRiceX Fiber Concentrate.

The company granted exclusive worldwide marketing rights for the ingredientsand the use patent to NutraStar Inc. (www.nutrastar.com).NutraStar is headed by Patricia McPeak, former president of RiceX.
