MORRISTOWN, N.J.P.L. Thomas and INORéal® SA received a Canadian patent for its Satiereal® saffron extract. The patent protects the product, which includes the saffron extracts crocin and picrocrocin, as a satiety agent to support healthy weight. With this patent, INORéals ingredient intellectual property is protected in the United States.

The GRAS ingredient uses proprietary saffron extracts to enhance serotonin activity, which influences satiety, appetite, mood and behaviors. Satiereal is used in supplements, gums, functional foods and smoothies to induce satiety.

In a recent study in Nutrition Research, Satiereal reduced snacking and enhanced the experience of satiety through its suggested mood-enhancing effect.
