HOUSTONWest Coast Nutritionals has issued a voluntarily recall of several of its sexual health products, as FDA has found they contain tadalafil, an active ingredient in FDA-approved drugs for erectile dysfunction (ED). FDA said the presence of taladifil in these productsFriminite, Extra Strength Instant Hot Rod and Libidronmade them unapproved new drugs, and the adulteration posed increased health risks to consumers of the products. The three products were commonly ordered online and were distributed to consumers and retailers both domestically and globally.

FDA warned consumers tadalafil may interact with nitrates found in prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levelsconsumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. The agency further advised tadalafil may cause side effects such as headaches and flushing. West Coast Nutritionals said it has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall, although FDA said it is aware of one consumer complaint with an adverse event.

Consumers are advised to contact their physician or health care provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using these products. Likewise, they can report any adverse reactions or quality problems associated with these products to FDA's MedWatch adverse event reporting program either online, via FAX (800-FDA-0178) or regular mail (pre-addressed form here).
