SINGAPOREUnistraw Holdings Pte. received a U.S. patent for its "Drink Flavouring Straw" ingredient delivery technology. Broadly speaking, the straws contain spherical pellets that gradually dissolve and release active ingredients throughout the drinking process. The technology can deliver flavors, probiotics and medication; for example, using a chocolate-flavored straw, the drinker would taste chocolate throughout a glass of milk, as opposed to having it settle at the bottom.

We see the opportunity to own the better-for-you kids beverage market, particularly with fun, take-anywhere milk beverages that promote both mental and physical health," said Suchet Rastogi, CEO of Unistraw.  Of course, having strong, defendable IP is a prerequisite to making the necessary investment to commercialize the technology."

Unistraw began in Australia in 1996, and has since spread to 30 countries in the world. The delivery system is set to launch in the U.S. market in early 2013.
