Aker Creates Scientific Board

OSLO, NorwayAker BioMarine Antarctic formed a scientific board consisting of scientific experts in fields that impact Akers commercial and scientific activities. The Aker BioMarine Science Board (ASB) will provide strategic guidance for the companys ongoing research and development program including in vitro, preclinical and clinical studies, according to Hogne Vik, M.D., Ph.D., chairman, ASB.  He added the experts will contribute to Akers regulatory plans in Europe, North America and Asia.

Matts Johansen, executive vice president of sales, marketing and R&D, said the board will help the company develop supplements, foods, beverages, cosmetics and feed categories internationally using its Superba and Qrill krill-derived ingredients.

The inaugural meeting of ASB will take place in Oslo on Sept. 28 and 29 2011.

Founding Board Members Include Sebastiano Banni, Ph.D., associate professor of physiology at the faculty of sciences for the University of Cagliari; professor Philip Calder, president of the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL); Vincenzo Di Marzo, research director at the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry of the National Research Council in Pozzuoli, Naples, Italy; Tomohito Hamazaki, past president and chair of the board of Japan Society for Lipid Nutrition; William Harris, Ph.D., director of research and clinical trials at Health Diagnostic Laboratory Inc.; and Willem van Nieuwenhuyzen, MSc., founder Lecipro Consulting, the Netherlands.
