MORRISTOWN, N.J.Capsugel recently launched its new LIPIDEX® technology platform, which will enable the company's Dosage Form Solutions (DFS) business unit to improve its pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products development.

The new technology integrates the companys lipid, liquid and semi-solid fill technologies, extensive product development experience, and commercial manufacturing infrastructure.

Our LIPIDEX technology platform provides tailored solutions for the many challenges our customers face, whether its development of low solubility drugs in their pipeline, repositioning existing drugs for better therapeutic performance or rebranding them using innovative dosage forms," said Amit Patel, president, Capsugel DFS.

The LIPIDEX technology platform centers on Capsugel DFS clinical development program that utilizes its Lipid Expert System. Capsugel's global research and development (R&D) locations also use small-scale liquid fill manufacturing technology.

Our Lipid Expert System can model ternary phase diagrams based on solubility in individual lipid-based excipients, so identifying the optimum formulation space for an API can happen much faster than by conventional matrix solubility screening experiments," said Keith Hutchison, Ph.D., senior vice president of R&D, Capsugel. The combination of our formulation and encapsulation expertise is being leveraged for unparalleled speed and precision in product development, scale-up and manufacturing."

The company's global manufacturing footprint, including sites in the United States, Europe and Japan, allows business continuity planning and includes FDA and MHRA accreditation, as well as capabilities in high-potency actives, controlled substances and hormones.

Capsugel also recently launched Plantcaps, a plant-based capsule made from pullulan.
