Croda Expands U.K. Lipid Production

EAST YORKSHIRE, England--Croda Healthcare issignificantly expanding lipid production at its Leek site in Staffs, England.The development will take place through the middle of 2004 and will doublemanufacturing capacity. Croda (www.croda.co.uk)also recently commissioned a GMP API (active pharmaceutical ingredient)supercritical CO2 plant to produce lipids with greater than95-percent purity.

"As one of the leaders in lipid technology, we have seenstrong growth in global demand for our marine and plant concentrates,particularly omega-3 and -6 PUFAs [polyunsaturated fatty acids] for dietarysupplements," said Keith Layden, managing director of health care andpersonal care for Croda Chemicals Europe. "There is great interest in ourcondition-specific products, such as the Incromega 500 series."
