MIGDAL HA'EMEQ,, IsraelLipid ingredient manufacturer Enzymotec Ltd. has signed a joint venture agreement with Danish company Polar Omega to commercialize Omega PC. Under the agreement, Polar Omega will be responsible for the wild fish cold extract supply chain; Enzymotec will take care of global sales and marketing, research and development, and the intellectual property regarding Omega PC.

We are very pleased to join our scientific and intellectual forces with Polar Omegas strength in supply chain management and manufacturing, by establishing a strategic partnership between two significant players in the global omega-3 market from Israel and Denmark," said Dr. Ariel Katz, president and CEO of Enzymotec.

Enzymotec, with 15 years of experience in developing, manufacturing and marketing clinically-validated, bio-functional, lipid-based compounds, and Polar Omega, with a state-of-the-art-production facility and access to some of the highest quality raw material, positions this joint venture to redefine the omega-3 market," said Nils Christian Jensen CEO of Polar Omega A/S. "We are proud to join with Enzymotec as our partner and look forward to many years of fruitful collaboration."

Enzymotec also announced the acceptance of its latest clinical study on K-REAL krill oil. The study, Enhanced increase of omega-3 index in healthy individuals with response to 4-week n-3 fatty acid supplementation from krill oil versus fish oil," will be published in the Journal of Lipids in Health and Disease. Peter Jones, Ph.D., conducted the study, which evaluated the benefits of krill oil compared to fish oil, at the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals, Winnipeg, Canada.

Researchers found krill oil to be more effective than fish oil in reducing n-6:n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid ratios and improving the omega-3 index.

This study is a step in the right direction to show the benefits of krill oil, and we are very happy with the results. The assumption that omega-3 fatty acids are better absorbed when they are bound to phospholipids rather than triglycerides, was suggested as one of the main benefits of krill oil. However, nobody was able to show it so far. This is the first well designed study proving that consumption of krill oil is more efficient than fish oil in elevating the level of omega-3 fatty acids in the red blood cell," Jones said.
