Fish Oil Does Not Make Children Smarter
September 26, 2008
DURHAM,United Kingdom—Study findings indicating that fish oil made children smarter were dismissed by a new study, the Associated Press reported.
Results from the original study showed that children who consistently took omega-3 capsules before an exam scored higher on the test than children who did not.
However, some in the scientific community argued that the study did not include a control group, so researchers were unable to analyze if children who took a placebo would have had similar effects.
“Making comparisons with a group that did not take supplements introduces selection bias. The conclusions cannot be trusted," Professor Tom Sanders told the Associated Press.
