New Food Products Introduced with Cognis TONALIN®

LAS VEGASCognis Nutrition& Health announced at the IFT Food Expo that its TONALIN® brand of CLA(conjugated linoleic acid) is being introduced in food products. TONALIN CLA hasGRAS (generally recognized as safe) status for use in yogurt, meal replacementbars and drinks, fruit juices, chocolate, milk-based beverages and coffee creamsubstitutes.

TONALIN CLA was introduced in a new line of food products fromCorporacion Alimentaria Penasanta (CAPSA), in its new line NATURLINEA, whichincludes a milk and orange juice blend. CLA occurs naturally in milk and workswell with milk-based products, according to Franz Timmermann, Ph.D., CognisGlobal Market Segment manager.

CLA also reduces body fat mass in healthy, overweight adultsby as much as 9 percent and helps to maintain lean body mass and prevent fatregain, according to a study published in the AmericanJournal of Clinical Nutrition, (79, 6:1118-1125, 2004)(www.ajcn.org). Cognis produces TONALIN CLA through a proprietary process thatconverts linoleic acid from safflower into CLA with a low amount ofnon-naturally occurring isomers. CLA is available in oil form orwater-dispersible powder and emulsions.
