Nordic Naturals Enhances Fish Oil Labels

WATSONVILLE, Calif.NordicNaturals Inc. (www.nordicnaturals.com) adopted a label change on its fishoil supplements to identify both the volume and weight of eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in its products. According to the company, such labeling is common in Scandinavia, but the United States has only requiredweight disclosure. However, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) recentlyendorsed changing the labeling requirement to mirror the Scandinavian practice.According to Joar Opheim, chief executive officer (CEO), EPA and DHA are lighterin weight than many other fatty acids in fish oil; highlighting the twomeasurements can help more accurately explain the concentration level of theselong-chain essential fatty acids (EFAs).
