DARTMOUTH, Nova ScotiaOcean Nutrition Canada (ONC), a supplier of omega-3, EPA and DHA to the food, beverage and dietary supplement markets, acquired the exclusive global marketing and distribution rights to GAT Food Essentials omega-3 microencapsulation-emulsion technology that will allow ONC to further expand its range of applications.

Under the terms of the agreement, ONC acquired the rights to exclusive use of GAT's unique and patented "wowCAPS®" technology, in the omega-3 space. The company also acquired GAT's existing, global omega-3 customer base that includes customers in Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

According to the company, food companies currently using GAT's "wowCAPS" technology for omega-3 now will benefit from using ONC's MEG-3® fish oil, while using the same proven microencapsulation-emulsion technology they have been using in the past. ONC also will provide turnkey marketing support and capabilities.

"We are very pleased to be bringing our technology and expertise to the omega-3 market leader. We believe that ONC, because of its worldwide reach and best in class marketing, is the ideal partner to expand the adoption of this technology by the major food companies of the world as they develop and launch omega-3 enriched products," said Miguel Gimeno, co-CEO of GAT Food Essentials.

"With GAT's microencapsulation-emulsion technology in the same portfolio as our patented Powder-loc microencapsulation technology platform and product line, our ability to meet customer requirements across a spectrum of food applications and food processing conditions is unmatched in the industry. ONC is committed to providing its customers a variety of solutions to meet all of their omega-3 EPA/DHA needs regardless of the application," said Jon Getzinger, chief sales and marketing officer, ONC.
