Omega-3s May Improve Symptoms of Lupus

ULSTER, Ireland--Omega-3 supplements and fish oilmay be able to improve symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus, an autoimmunedisorder, according to researchers at the University of Ulster. They announcedresults of their study in a press release from the university (www.ulst.ac.uk),noting fish oils contain long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids that haveanti-inflammatory properties. Study participants took fish oil supplements threetimes per day for 24 weeks, after which time they noted a reduction in diseaseactivity, less fatigue, and improved quality of life and overall feeling ofhealth.
