ORLANDO, Fla.Valensa debuted its supercritical CO2 perilla seed extract line, including Verilla Perilla Seed Extract and VerillaMax Perilla Seed Flour. The new products boast a high alpha linolenic acid (ALA) omega-3 content, and offer an alternative to chia. Perilla seed CO2 extract has approximately 50- to 60-percent ALA content, and a 6:1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids. Valensa's perilla seed extract is positioned for oils, softgels, capsules and gummies, while the flour is available for functional foods.
Valensa president and CEO Rudi E. Moerck, Ph.D., said the ingredients will respond to growing interest in plant-based omega-3s. New research continues to show the health benefits of alpha linoleic acid as a supplement to human diets," he said. "Not only is perilla seed supercritical CO2 extract available right now, it is lower in cost and better from a nutritional standpoint than chia."
