CFSAN Releases 2006 Priorities, Grades 2005 Performance
WASHINGTONThe Food and Drug Administrations (FDA) Center forFood Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) announced its 2006 program prioritiesand also reported on its performance of 2005 Program Priorities.
The report outlined its work product expectations to support CFSAN programpriorities for the current fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2005, through Sept. 30, 2006), which are based on comments generated by stakeholders and internalofficials. According to the agency, the 2006 work plan focuses on high priorityareas that help ensure the safety of CFSAN regulated products. CFSAN also has posted its end-of-year report on its fiscal year 2005 programpriority accomplishments for FDAs foods program. According to the report,CFSAN completed 78 percent (87 out of 111) of its A list goals from theambitious 2005 plan. Among its reported accomplishments are:
Completion of the final rulemaking implementing three of the fourprovisions under the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Act of 2002-considereda critical step towards enhancing the security of the American food supply.
Initiation of a proposal to require shell egg producers to implementmeasures to prevent Salmonella enteritidis from contaminating eggs on thefarm.
Publication of a report entitled Food cGMPs ModernizationA Focus onFood Safety, which summarizes stakeholder comments, both written and oral,submitted to FDA relative to the food cGMPs (current good manufacturing practices).
