FDA's Dan Fabricant Set as Featured Speaker at SupplySide West

PHOENIXVIRGO announced Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., director of FDA's Division of Dietary Supplement Programs, will be the featured speaker at the 2013 Global Expo and Conference, SupplySide West. He will present an update around issues including ingredients of concern, the NDI draft guidance, GMP (good manufacturing practice) inspections and 483s, warning letters and more. The FDA Update will take place on Nov. 14 from 9 to 9:50 a.m. in Congress Center, Casanova 501, Level 1. The featured speaker presentation is open to all SupplySide West attendees, with underwriting support from BASF Nutrition & Health.
"It's been a very busy year at FDA, and the action has even picked up within the dietary supplement space in the last few months," said Heather Granato, vice president of content, VIRGO's Health & Nutrition Network. "We are very pleased to again offer folks the opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Fabricant about the agency's perceptions of the industry and his insights into what is necessary to deliver safe, efficacious products to consumers."
In his position at FDA, Fabricant advises the agency on policy issues involving dietary supplements, including the safety of new dietary ingredients (NDIs), cGMPs and problems reported by consumers. Hes also responsible for developing enforcement priorities and interpretations of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) in order to ensure that dietary supplements are safe, meet quality standards and are accurately labeled.
Immediately after Fabricant's presentation, the doors will open to the SupplySide West Expo Hall, which will include more than 1,700 booths showing thousands of ingredients, technologies and services to the 13,000 industry members who are expected to attend the show. The event takes place Nov. 12 to 16 at The Venetian & Sands Expo in Las Vegas.
