UNION, Mo.Pharma Tech Industries (PTI) will expand its production facility in Union, Missouri, by adding approximately 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

PTI's new manufacturing space will be utilized primarily for the production of ingestible powders, and it will include a dedicated International Organization for Standardization Class 8 (ISO 8) clean room. The project is scheduled to be completed in March 2014.

The company's expansion plans follow a separate upgrade project at PTI's plant in Royston, GA, where it recently completed a new analytical laboratory. Prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs can be tested in the new lab, and the expansion also features new equipment for analytical services: high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) for assay/impurity profiles of liquids and powders, quantitative/qualitative fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, particle size analysis of powders by laser diffraction, and gas chromatography (GC) analysis.

Our latest expansion and upgrade projects reflect not only an increase in the volume of overall business, but in the variety of manufacturing services that Pharma Tech Industries can offer to customers," said Tee Noland, chairman of Pharma Tech Industries. These projects are in line with our goal of responsible, gradual growth that allows PTI to reach into new areas while continuing to refine and hone existing capabilities."

PTI also constructed a clean room in 2011, which is dedicated to pouch filling of powder-based products. The room was built specifically to house the new Oystar Jones Adjustable Pouch King®, a high-speed packaging machine.
