AHPA Hosts HPTLC Seminar

SILVER SPRING, Md.  The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) will host a two-day seminar on high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) on June 9 and10 at the Alkemists Laboratories' corporate headquarters in Costa Mesa, CA.

Participants completing the course will be able to perform quality control (QC) using HPTLC on a variety of popular botanical extracts and raw materials. 

There are only 12 seats for this seminar, which will benefit business owners, laboratory personnel, quality assurance/quality compliance personnel, herbalists and anyone interested in making a determination for the quality and identity of botanical materials. A chemistry background is helpful, but not required. 

In addition to lectures and discussion, participants at the AHPA HPTLC seminar will spend the bulk of their time in the laboratory, conducting practical applications and using equipment to identify botanical reference samples from the extensive on-site herbarium. Scheduled topics on the agenda include:

Sidney Sudberg, chief scientific officer and vice president of quality at Alkemists Labs, will teach the course. Sudberg has been an active research chemist since his undergraduate studies at the City College of New York and graduate studies at Stony Brook University and New York University. He has published several scientific papers on natural products and serves on many of AHPA's committees, including the Analytical Laboratories and Standards committees, as well as the Sports Nutrition and Animal Products committees. 

Alkemists Labs' corporate headquarters features an on-site herbarium for reference materials, and participants completing the course will leave with the confidence to perform quality control using HPTLC on a variety of popular botanical materials.
